Location:- Frodsham WA6
Frodsham is a small Cheshire market town situated roughly mid-way between the Town of Warrington and The City of Chester.
I believe its name is derived from the Anglo Saxon 'Hamlet on the Marshes'.
The river weaver flows through the outskirts of the town, and into the estuary of the river Mersey.
In the last century much of the land surrounding the town was marsh, this has now been drained to form land for agricultural and industrial use.
Frodsham is very much a commuter town, being close to several large towns (see map), it is also bypassed by the M56 motorway, and the airports of Liverpool John Lennon and Manchester are only 20 minutes away.
The town is sheltered by the impressive hill known as Overton hill; in days gone by the hilltop was a popular venue for busloads of visitors from the Liverpool area. The 'Overton pleasure grounds' had teashops, children's swings and donkey rides. Its proudest feature was the helter skelter, which could be seen from miles away. Sadly it succumbed to rot in 1977. A pub in the town is named after this feature
"The Helter Skelter"
The hilltop is now home to Forest Hills & The View, a luxury hotel complex and a nightclub, the latter attracting many young people into the town at weekends. The town still has its weekly market , this market is spread along the towns main street, aptly named Main Street!
Frodsham Market day is every Thursday, Parking is available at Frodsham Train Stn, Eddisbury Square, The Bears Paw and Moor Ln Carpark.
Limited parking is also available throughout the town. Please note that the car park at the Co-Op is for supermarket customers only and parking is for up to 2 hours only. An attendant patrols this car park.
You may be charged for parking at the BearsPaw (£1)
